Big goals — a home, a car, a wedding, studies — feel far away until you turn them into a monthly number.
Step 1: define the goal
The amount and the date. Example: SAR 60,000 in 24 months.
Step 2: work out the monthly amount
60,000 ÷ 24 = SAR 2,500 a month.
Step 3: check it fits your budget
If it doesn't, change one of three things: the amount, the date, or your spending elsewhere.
Step 4: automate it
Set a standing transfer on payday into a separate savings account, so the money isn't available to spend.
Step 5: protect your emergency fund first
Don't use your emergency savings for a goal. Build them separately.
Staying on track
- Track progress monthly — seeing the balance grow is motivating.
- Put bonuses and unexpected income toward the goal.
- If you fall behind one month, adjust; don't give up.
For longer goals, consider whether part of the savings should be invested — understanding the risks first.
